  17. This software is available in two formats (disk images and
  18. "Net Install"):

  20. 1.  Four Disk Copy 1440K disk images.  Use Disk Copy to create the
  21. disks.  Disk Copy can be found in the Utilities folder
  22. posted here.

  24. 2.  A complete Open Transport 1.1.2 "Net Install", which
  25. includes all software from all four Open Transport 1.1.2
  26. disk images.  This posting is provided as a convenience for
  27. those customers who:
  28. - want to download just one file.
  29. - want a pre-configured "Net Install" to place on their hard
  30. drive or on a server.

  34. What’s new in Open Transport 1.1.2 - general
  35. - Fixes a performance problem which only affects Print
  36. Server Developers using native PAP.
  37.  
  38. - Introduces a change to TCP that should provide a minor
  39. increase in Web servers reusing TCP connections.  Open
  40. Transport will now unbind while the 2 minute disconnect
  41. timer is expiring.
  42.  
  43. - Fixes a problem with the Open Transport serial STREAMS
  44. module that could cause a crash.  The crash could result if
  45. the modem was turned off, hung, or unresponsive while a
  46. connection was attempted with OT/PPP.
  47.  
  48. - Fixes a problem where disconnecting with MacPPP 2.5.1
  49. could cause a crash if QuickTime Conferencing was running
  50. and waiting for connections.

  52. - Includes minor modifications to improve performance,
  53. compatibility and reliability.

  56. System requirements
  57. Open Transport is designed to work on Mac OS-compatible
  58. computers with a Motorola 68030 or 68040 family
  59. microprocessor, or a PowerPC microprocessor. Open Transport
  60. is supported on system software versions 7.1, 7.1.1, 7.1.2,
  61. 7.5.3, 7.5.5 or later. System software version 7.5.3 or
  62. later is recommended. No other system software versions are
  63. supported.

  65. Open Transport 1.1.2 can be used on the Performa and Power
  66. Macintosh 52xx, 53xx, 62xx and 63xx product lines. When you
  67. install OT1.1.2 on a 52xx, 53xx, 62xx and 63xx model you may
  68. get a dialog box indicating a hardware issue was detected.
  69. If this alert is displayed, Open Transport cannot be
  70. installed or loaded until the Cache/ROM DIMM is replaced.
  71. Your computer will continue to run classic networking. The
  72. required repairs are covered under the Apple repair
  73. extension program. Please contact an Apple-authorized
  74. service provider to have your computer repaired.

  76. Open Transport requires a minimum of 5 MB of RAM (68030 or
  77. 68040 computers) or 8 MB of RAM (PowerPC-based computers).
  78. Open Transport memory requirements are based on total system
  79. memory including virtual memory, minus the size of any RAM
  80. disk and disk cache you’re using.

  83. Network interface options
  84. Open Transport 1.1.2 supports PCI bus, NuBus, communications
  85. slot, and PC Card network interface cards, as well as
  86. built-in LocalTalk, Ethernet, and Token Ring network
  87. adapters. For supported computers without expansion options,
  88. Open Transport 1.1.2 also supports a SCSI-attached network
  89. adapter. Third party network interface options available for
  90. Open Transport include Fast Ethernet, ATM, and FDDI.

  93. Before you install Open Transport 1.1.2
  94. - Read the section “Known limitations and other issues”
  95. below to make sure Open Transport 1.1.2 will work on your
  96. computer.

  98. - Make backup copies of the software and documents on your
  99. hard disk (especially your System Folder) before installing
  100. this software.
  101.  
  102. - For best results, you should install Open Transport 1.1.2
  103. over Open Transport 1.1 or Open Transport 1.1.1, but not
  104. over any beta version of Open Transport.
  105.  
  106. - Turn on only those extensions installed with your system
  107. software. (Open the Extensions Manager control panel and
  108. select System 7.5.3 or 7.5.5 from the Sets pop-up menu, then
  109. restart your computer.)  Do not turn off all extensions
  110. before installing Open Transport.
  111.  
  112. - Performa and Power Macintosh 52xx, 53xx, 62xx and 63xx
  113. models using System 7.5.3 or later can install Open
  114. Transport 1.1.2 directly. Other supported systems must
  115. install Open Transport 1.1 or have Open Transport 1.1.1 on
  116. system software version 7.1, 7.1.1, 7.1.2 , 7.5.3, or 7.5.5
  117. before updating to Open Transport 1.1.2.
  118.  
  119. - If you use SLIP or PPP software to access the Internet,
  120. verify that your SLIP or PPP software is compatible with
  121. Open Transport. See the section under “Dialup network
  122. connectivity - TCP/IP.”
  123.  
  124. - When Open Transport is installed, the Network control
  125. panel is replaced by the AppleTalk configuration utility
  126. program. The MacTCP control panel is replaced by the TCP/IP
  127. configuration utility program. Both AppleTalk and TCP/IP are
  128. located in the Control Panels folder. For simplicity and
  129. consistency, user documentation generally refers to
  130. AppleTalk and TCP/IP as “control panels” even though
  131. technically they are utility programs.

  133. - You should download a copy of System 7.5 Update 2.0 to
  134. your hard disk or have a copy of the Open Transport 1.1
  135. retail package or Open Transport 1.1.1 Internet GM package
  136. available. This will give you the software to reinstall Open
  137. Transport 1.1 or Open Transport 1.1.1 in case you decide to
  138. remove Open Transport 1.1.2.
